The Revered Sacred Object of Luang Phor Toon, Wat Pho Nimit (1969)

One of the most esteemed creations by the renowned monk Luang Phor Toon of Wat Pho Nimit, Bangkok, was the sacred powdered amulet crafted in 1969 (B.E. 2512). These amulets were made using sacred powders combined with materials from older, revered amulets, embodying immense spiritual significance and power.

Legacy of Luang Phor Toon

  • Mentorship: Luang Phor Toon was a beloved disciple of Somdej Phra Buddhacarya Nuam of Wat Anong, a monk renowned for his mastery of meditation and longevity.
  • Magical Powder: In 1939-40, Somdej Nuam entrusted Luang Phor Toon with a special magical powder. This powder had been crafted by Somdej himself, incorporating materials collected from revered monks of that era, including Luang Pu Suk of Wat Makham Thao.
  • Mission: Somdej Nuam instructed Luang Phor Toon to use this powder for creating sacred amulets, setting the stage for Luang Phor Toon's future contributions to Buddhist sacred art.

The Journey of Sacred Amulet Creation

  • Early Beginnings:
    • In 1942, Luang Phor Toon began crafting amulets.
    • By 1954, he released the Phra Phong Kesa Mongkhon, which gained popularity for being mixed with Somdej Nuam's sacred hair powder. Known as the Kesa Mongkhon model, these amulets featured a Somdej print with a raised yantra on the back.
    • These amulets were consecrated and distributed at Wat Anong with Somdej Nuam's blessings.
  • The 1969 Batch:
    • In 1969, Luang Phor Toon crafted another batch of powdered amulets, incorporating the original magical powder along with several new materials.
    • This batch consisted of four types:
      1. Somdej with the Sarika Yantra on the back.
      2. Somdej Rowerua Chang.
      3. Luang Pho To.
      4. Suphanburi triangular powder type (a nod to his Suphanburi roots).

Sacred Materials Used

This batch contained a blend of significant and sacred substances:

  1. Magical powder from Luang Pu Suk (Wat Pak Khlong Makham Thao), provided by Somdej Nuam.
  2. Magical powder from Luang Pho Sod (Wat Pak Nam).
  3. Powder from damaged Somdej Wat Rakhang amulets.
  4. Fragments of Phra Kru Wat Sam Pluem amulets.
  5. Powder and lead filings from Phra Kru Chumnum Songk and Phra Kru Ratchaburana in Ayutthaya.
  6. Powder from Phra Kring by Chao Khun Santhi (Wat Suthat).
  7. Sacred substances from Phra 25 B.E. amulets.
  8. Mulberry paper inscribed with 108 yantras, following the Phra Kring creation formula of Wat Suthat.
  9. Soil from the four holy sites.
  10. 108 auspicious herbs.
  11. Sacred powders, including Itthije, Patamang, and Maharach.

Consecration Ceremony

The consecration involved close associates of Luang Phor Toon, who took turns blessing the amulets in private sessions:

  1. Luang Pu To, Wat Pradu Chim Pli.
  2. Luang Pu Saeng, Wat Kanlaya.
  3. Luang Pho Sa, Wat Ratchanadda.
  4. Luang Pho Theer, Wat Pa Lelai.
