History of the Making of Phra Rod Nur Phong Bailan BE2500

Luang Phor Kuay (LP Kuay / 龙婆贵), Wat Kositaram

Introduction

Phra Rod Nur Phong Bailan BE2500 is one of the most revered amulets created by Luang Phor Kuay Chudtintho of Wat Kositaram, Chainat Province. Known for his profound knowledge of Buddhist magic and sacred incantations, LP Kuay was a highly respected monk, with a deep understanding of ancient formulas for making powerful amulets. His Phra Rod amulets are particularly sought after for their exceptional protection, metta (loving-kindness), and invulnerability.

Materials and Sacred Powders

The Phra Rod Nur Phong Bailan was meticulously crafted using a mixture of Phong Bailan, which consists of burnt ancient scriptures, along with a blend of powerful sacred powders, including:

  • Phong Ittijay (power for success and good fortune)
  • Phong Maha Lap (great wealth and prosperity)
  • Phong Maha Ud (invulnerability and protection)
  • Phong Wahn 108 (sacred herbs used in traditional Thai magic)

These sacred materials were carefully mixed, pressed into molds, and consecrated in a grand blessing ceremony.

Consecration Ceremony

The amulets were blessed in BE2500 (1957) in a major consecration ceremony held at Wat Kositaram. The ceremony was attended by renowned monks from various temples, including:

  • Luang Phor Kuay, Wat Kositaram (presiding master)
  • Luang Phor Dee, Wat Lad Pla Duk
  • Luang Phor Noi, Wat SrisaThong
  • Luang Phor Thaen, Wat Thung Mon
  • Luang Phor Rung, Wat Tha Krabue

These senior monks performed sacred incantations to empower the amulets with their protective and auspicious properties.

Distinctive Features

  • Front Design: The amulet depicts the Phra Rod Buddha in a classic meditative posture, surrounded by an arch design, resembling ancient Lanna-style Phra Rod amulets from Wat Mahawan, Lamphun.
  • Back Design: The reverse side features a Yantra (sacred script) infused with mystical energy.
  • Texture: The amulet is made of black Phong Bailan powder, which has a rough yet sturdy texture. Some versions may have visible cracks, a characteristic of traditional Phong Bailan amulets.
  • Size: Compact and easy to wear, making it a preferred choice for daily protection.

Sacred Powers and Beliefs

The Phra Rod Nur Phong Bailan amulet is renowned for its strong protective power and is believed to grant:
Klaew Klad – Protection from harm and danger
Metta Mahaniyom – Attraction of kindness and support from others
Kongkraphan Chatri – Invulnerability from weapons
Maha Lap – Increased prosperity and good fortune
