History of Phra Somdej Chao Khun Nor, Lang U

The Phra Somdej Chao Khun Nor, Lang U amulet derives its name from the letter "U", which holds deep significance. The "U" is an abbreviation of the words "Udom" or "Utama", meaning the highest or most excellent. Additionally, it represents the first letter of the ecclesiastical title of its creator, Than Khun Phra Udomsarsophon, an esteemed monk who received this auspicious name from His Majesty the King.

Creation and Purpose

The Phra Somdej Chao Khun Nor, Lang U amulet was created in BE 2512 (1969) by Than Khun Phra Udomsarsophon, who was serving as the assistant abbot of Wat Thepsirin at the time. This amulet was meticulously crafted using a combination of sacred materials and underwent multiple consecration ceremonies to ensure its spiritual power.

Sacred Materials Used

The materials selected for the creation of Phra Somdej Chao Khun Nor, Lang U were highly revered and included:

• Consecration powder (Phra Phutthamongkhon Nayok) – This was left over from the 1965 Royal Kathin Robe Offering Ceremony, during which His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej personally blessed the amulet.
• Incense ash from the Phra Phutthamongkhon Nayok prayer ceremony.
• Sacred Chiang Saen bell fragments.
• Powder from old, highly respected amulets, including:
  • Broken pieces of Phra Somdej amulets from 1941, created by Phra Buddhakosajarn.
  • Phra Somdej amulets from Korea, 1950, known as Phra Song Nam Korea.

Once these materials were collected, they were entrusted to Chao Khun Nor for a preliminary blessing before the actual molding process.

Design and Production

For the creation of Phra Somdej Chao Khun Nor, Lang U, the Phra Somdej Wat Rakhang (large print)—originally designed by Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (To Phrommarangsi)—was used as the prototype.

The carving of the mold was entrusted to Chang Leng (Thirasak Thammachatri), a renowned craftsman of that era, ensuring intricate detailing and authentic replication.

A total of 3,000 pieces were produced in this batch.

Consecration and Blessing Ceremonies

Upon completion, the amulets were consecrated in three separate ceremonies, personally blessed by Chao Khun Nor on three different occasions. This extensive process reinforced their spiritual potency and sacred energy, making them highly revered among devotees.
