Luang Ta Pan was a revered monk at Wat Bangkhunprom (currently known as Wat Mai Amataros), located in Bangkhunprom, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. This temple has a long history and is renowned for its creation of the famous Phra Somdej Bangkhunprom amulets.

History of Wat Bangkhunprom

Wat Bangkhunprom was established during the reign of King Taksin in around B.E. 2321 (1778). Initially named "Wat Waramatataram," it was later renamed "Wat Amataros" or "Wat Amataros." In B.E. 2460 (1917), the temple was officially renamed to "Wat Mai Amataros."

Role of Luang Ta Pan

Luang Ta Pan played a significant role in the development and restoration of Wat Mai Amataros. He was highly respected by the local community and contributed to the creation of the famous Phra Somdej Bangkhunprom amulets, which are treasured by collectors and devotees alike.

Creation of the Phra Somdej Bangkhunprom Amulets

The Phra Somdej Bangkhunprom amulets were created and placed in the main stupa of the temple in B.E. 2413 (1870). Somdej Phra Buddhachan (To Phrommarangsi) led the creation of these amulets, which became iconic sacred items for Thai Buddhists.

Opening of the Amulet Chamber

In B.E. 2500 (1957), the stupa chamber was officially opened, led by General Prapas Charusathien. During the opening, a total of 2,950 well-preserved Phra Somdej amulets were discovered.
