1. General Overview

The Soxy Haw Na Mo Necklace, also known as Hua Namo, is a sacred protective necklace originating from Wat Suan Khan, a well-respected temple in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Thailand. It was created in B.E. 2500 (1957) by Luang Phor Khai, also referred to as Phor Than Klai, one of the most venerated monks in the southern Khao Or magical tradition.

The necklace features the mantra “Na Mo Pu Ta Ya Na”, often abbreviated symbolically into the sacred character “Na” stamped on each bead. The first batch, made from Nur Khalai Na, a copper-silver alloy, is especially revered and highly collectible. Most of these pieces are now certified with Standard Amulet Certificates confirming their authenticity and origin.

2. Historical Background

Phor Than Klai (1886–1970) was widely known for his meditative insight and compassionate presence. In the mid-20th century, he became renowned for his spiritual efficacy and ability to bless protective charms. In 1957, the temple commissioned the creation of this unique necklace during the Kathina robe-offering season. It was meant to serve as both a spiritual tool and a practical, wearable talisman for devotees.

This first batch became a template for many later versions throughout Southern Thailand, but collectors continue to regard the B.E. 2500 issue as the original and most powerful.

3. Materials and Design

The necklace is made from Nur Khalai Na, a traditional Thai alloy consisting primarily of copper with a silver finish. The beads are oval or rounded in shape, each one die-stamped with the sacred “Na” character, symbolizing the start of the mantra “Na Mo Pu Ta Ya”.

The strands generally measure 18 to 22 inches in length, though this may vary based on individual assembly. These necklaces were originally distributed without pendants, but devotees often added small Buddha images, Takrut scrolls, or Khao Or charms to personalize them.

4. Consecration Ritual

The consecration ceremony for the B.E. 2500 batch was held at Wat Suan Khan and lasted for several days during the Kathina season. It was led by Luang Phor Khai himself and assisted by senior monks from the Khao Or lineage, including monks from Wat Phra Mahathat and Wat Phra Borommathat.

The ceremony involved continuous chanting of protective Pali suttas, especially the Itthipiso and Na Mo Pu Ta Ya mantras. A traditional southern fire-empowerment ritual (Homa or Nah Tae Fai) was also performed to spiritually seal the amulets.

5. Spiritual Significance

The Hua Namo necklace is believed to offer broad-spectrum spiritual protection, shielding the wearer from danger, black magic, and malevolent forces. It also enhances metta (loving-kindness), making the wearer more likable and socially favored—particularly helpful in business or negotiation.

Additionally, the repeating mantra along the strand serves as a constant spiritual reminder, keeping the wearer mentally connected to the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha). It is also associated with moderate wealth attraction (Maha Lap) and general auspicious fortune.

6. Collectibility and Rarity

First-batch B.E. 2500 Hua Namo necklaces are increasingly rare and are highly valued among collectors, especially when the original silver plating and clear “Na” stamps are intact. Authentic strands can be identified by the deeply impressed characters, the blackened patina in recessed areas, and the hand-soldered interlinking beads—a technique later replaced by machine-made versions in later batches.

While many similar necklaces were produced in B.E. 2505 to 2510, these later issues generally used cheaper brass or non-alloyed metals, and do not carry the same premium as the B.E. 2500 originals.
