Biography

Wat Phonsawan (Khao Sorn Mo) in Suphan Buri Province. Born in 1907 in Tambon Saraya Som, Amphoe Song Phi Nong, Suphan Buri Province, he began his significant contributions in 1959 during a visit to relatives in Tambon Nong Bo, where he was invited by Mr. Chup and Mrs. Kala Chudi to build a temple in the area. The couple generously donated 10 rai of land for the temple’s construction. Despite initial opposition from the Sangha due to the area’s dense forest and limited resources, Luang Pho Ploy worked tirelessly with local villagers to clear the land and build a residence.

In 1966, he sought official permission to establish the temple, which was granted on October 29, 1968, officially founding Wat Phonsawan. Later, the temple received its royal charter on June 28, 1973.

Tenure and Contributions

Luang Pho Ploy served as the abbot of Wat Phonsawan from 1959 to 1981, during which he significantly advanced the temple’s development and education initiatives. He emphasized the study of Buddhist scriptures and played a pivotal role in promoting monastic education.

One of his notable contributions was the creation of sacred objects, including the highly respected Phra Phutthamongkhon amulet, which remains popular among devotees for its spiritual significance and protective qualities.

Legacy of Wat Phonsawan

Today, Wat Phonsawan continues to be a center for Buddhist education, offering teachings in three areas:

  • Dhamma (Moral Teachings)
  • Pali (Scriptural Studies)
  • General Studies

The temple’s cultural and educational contributions have been widely recognized:

  • In 2016, it was designated as an Educational Park Temple.
  • In 2017, it was honored as a Cultural Tourism Temple of Suphan Buri Province.

Phra Khru Ploy’s dedication and vision have left an enduring legacy, transforming Wat Phonsawan into a center of learning, spiritual growth, and cultural heritage.
