The Biography of Luang Phor Phueng & The History of Phra Phong Pim Samlian (B.E. 2460 – B.E. 2462) – Wat Sawang Arom, Suphan Buri

Early Life & Ordination

Luang Phor Phueng was born in 1883 in Ban Phai Mu, Tambon Ton Tan, Amphoe Song Phi Nong, Suphan Buri Province. His parents, Rai and Pui, were farmers who faced financial hardships. After their separation, he lived with his mother and assisted in rice farming from a young age. Recognizing the importance of literacy, his mother sent him to Wat Khlong Madan, where Luang Phor Saeng taught him Thai, Khmer, chanting, and Buddhist scriptures.

In 1945, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Song Phi Nong, with Phra Palat Bunyang as his preceptor. His mentors included Luang Phor Niang Inthachoto and Luang Phor Nong Inthawanno. During his monastic training, he formed strong bonds with Luang Phor Sod (later of Wat Pak Nam) and Luang Phor Hom. Together, they studied Vipassana meditation at Wat Khao Yai, Tha Maka District, Kanchanaburi Province under Luang Phor Plueum before returning to Wat Song Phi Nong.

Arrival at Wat Sawang Arom & Temple Development

On May 13, 1919, Luang Phor Phueng relocated to Wat Sawang Arom, Ban Kum Subdistrict, Song Phi Nong District, Suphan Buri Province. His departure was accompanied by a grand procession attended by Luang Phor Nong, Luang Phor Sod, and Luang Phor Hom, who came to see him off.

Upon arriving, he immediately initiated temple development efforts, mobilizing villagers to:
✔ Dig a protective ditch around the temple.
✔ Plant coconut trees on the embankment.
✔ Construct a mound for the Ubosot (ordination hall).

To express gratitude, he distributed amulets to devotees who contributed to the temple’s construction.
