About Luang Phor Sothon

The principal Buddha image, Phra Phuttha Sothon (popularly called Luang Phor Sothon), is one of Thailand’s most revered Buddha images. It is enshrined in Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan, a royal temple in Chachoengsao Province.

According to legend, Luang Phor Sothon, along with two other Buddha images, floated down the Bang Pakong River from the north during the Ayutthaya period. When villagers tried to bring the image ashore, it miraculously became light only at the spot where the temple now stands. The image is in the Mara Vichai posture and is renowned for granting blessings of health, wealth, safety, and wish fulfillment.

Purpose of the BE2535 Batch

By the late 1980s, Wat Sothon embarked on a major project to build a new grand Ubosot to properly house Luang Phor Sothon and accommodate the growing number of devotees. The BE2535 batch was specially created to:

• Raise funds for Ubosot construction and associated temple renovations

• Distribute sacred objects to devotees as a symbol of Luang Phor Sothon’s blessing and protection

• Front: Image of Luang Phor Sothon in the Mara Vichai posture, modeled after the principal Buddha image in the Ubosot

• Back: Temple emblem or sacred Yant (varies by version)

• Crafted in various materials depending on the sub-series (e.g., copper, brass, silver, gold plating, and sacred powders)

• Official temple code markings for authenticity

Consecration Ceremony

The consecration was a grand multi-day event held at Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan:

• Presiding Monk: The abbot of Wat Sothon, along with senior monks from surrounding provinces

• Chanting and blessings by a large assembly of high-ranking monks from across Thailand

• The amulets were placed in front of the principal Luang Phor Sothon image during the ceremony, absorbing the spiritual power of continuous chanting and prayers

• Rituals included invocation of protective Katha, Metta Mahaniyom, and Klaew Klaad blessings
