Phra Somdej Kaiser • Pim Jumbo (Nur Phong Namphi) • BE 2529

Wat Arun Ratchawararam (Bangkok) • “Crack Model” • Special Iron Blend • Rare 5.3 cm

Main obverse — robust “Kaiser” five-lotus base; Namphi iron–infused sacred powder texture with natural drying “crack” signature.

Historical Significance

Issued in BE 2529 (1986) at Wat Arun Ratchawararam, this “Pim Jumbo” belongs to the celebrated Somdej Song Kaiser series. Materials were gathered across decades for doctrinal merit-making and preservation of wicha (sacred formulae). Consecrated in formal Putthapisek (empowerment rite) led by the Supreme Patriarch Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara with 99 senior monks, this edition supported the temple’s religious works and served as a national devotional project.

Obverse detail — smooth shoulder arcs, “Kaiser” curve at the chest, and even press density across the pedestal tiers.

Contextual Insight: Known as the “Crack Model,” the Jumbo uses Nur Phong Namphi (sacred powder blended with iron from the famed Nam Phi source) alongside historic Somdej powders from Wat Rakhang, Wat Intharaviharn, Wat Mai Amataros and others. The large format accentuates surface drying lines and edge shrinkage—trusted tells for seasoned collectors.

Reverse — temple crack mould mark; powder stratification.

Temple of Origin & Master’s Discipline

Wat Arun is central to Bangkok’s Rattanakosin heritage, upholding meticulous liturgy and canonical iconography. The consecration circle drew eminent masters including LP Koon (Wat Banrai), LP Pae (Wat Pikulthong), LP Liew (Wat Rai Tang Thong), LP Put (Wat Klang Bang Phra), and LP Cham (Wat Don Yai Hom). The discipline of putthapisek (“Buddha-empowerment”) guided chant cycles, candle rites, and merit dedication.

Side — powder layering and iron speck inclusions under uniform light.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Material Sacred powder blend (Nur Phong Namphi iron + historic Somdej powders: Wat Rakhang, Wat Intharaviharn, Wat Mai Amataros, Wat Paknam—Roon 1/4/6) with temple soils, relic powders, floral pollens, and binders gathered over ~25 years.
Mold / Pim Kaiser five-lotus base • Pim Jumbo (approx. 5.3 cm) • natural drying “crack” signature; soft press rhythm and edge shrinkage typical of large-format casts.
Consecration Nine candle-lighting rites (Wien Thian) led by Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara with 99 monks; extended chant cycles; release post-BE 2529 after multi-year preparation.

Original Temple Box.

Spiritual Function & Doctrinal Purpose

According to Thai Buddhist belief, this Somdej supports Klaew Klaad (evasion from danger), Metta Mahaniyom (loving-kindness/affinity), and Maha Lap (good fortune). Devotees wear Jumbo Kaiser for calm authority, protection in travel, and auspicious opportunities.

Rarity & Collector Significance

Assessed as Rare, especially in well-kept large format (~5.3 cm) with characteristic surface cracking and intact edges. Collectors verify Namphi iron specks, uniform grey-black powder stratification, and press rhythm. Early, crisp casts with provenance are regarded as collector-grade.

Materials Collected (Highlights): Soils from the Four Holy Places in India (Lumbini, Bodh Gaya, Sarnath, Kushinagar); historic Somdej powders from Wat Rakhang, Wat Intharaviharn, Wat Mai Amataros, and Wat Paknam (Roon 1/4/6); relic and temple powders (Wat Chaiyo, Wat Phra Kaew, Wat Nang Phaya, Wat Phra That Cho Hae); gold pollen powders; laterite and minerals; 108 pollens; traditional binders (cooked rice/banana); and metallic traces (silver/copper mix)—blended then empowered across nine rites.
